Map
Virgin Islands National Park looks like a tropical paradise, set among tropical forests, smooth sandy beaches, clear waters and coral reefs. But it’s also a place full of history and amazing adventures. You can explore the ruins of some of the great sugar plantations that used to dominate the island of St. John. Snorkel or swim in the ocean to experience some of the amazing coral reefs and tropical fish. The park also has over 20 trails where you can experience the history and natural beauty of the island.
Established as a national park in 1956, Virgin Islands National Park includes about two-thirds of the island of St. John. To get there, you’ll need to fly into St. Thomas and take a ferry over. Once on St. John, there are plenty of opportunities to rent equipment for snorkeling, kayaks and paddleboards. The busiest time of the year is winter, so visiting in October or April should give you better prices before the rainy season begins.
