Map
Remote and rugged. A land of canyons, deserts and mountains, yet a place teeming with life. Big Bend National Park sits along the northeast bend of the Rio Grande River in Texas. It’s place where you can find solitude on a lonely hike, or where you can gaze into the dark sky at night. Plenty of space for hiking, camping or rafting await.
Established in 1944, Big Bend is one of the lesser visited national parks. But that comes with its own rewards, as long as your mindful of the scorching summer weather. Fewer crowds and less development make it ideal for those seeking a quieter experience. It’s also unique in that it sits across the Rio Grande River from Mexico. Bring your passport and you can cross into Mexico to visit the village of Boquillas.
