Soaring sandstone cliffs and colorful canyons define Utah’s Zion National Park. The park looks like it’s straight out of a Hollywood western, with the changing hues of the cliffs and rivers that shaped the landscape. Here you’ll find bighorn sheep, deer, foxes and other small mammals. The park is also great for hiking and backpacking. The park’s 2,000 foot sandstone cliffs are also a world-famous destination for rock climbing. If you want to experience the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive, you’ll need to take a free shuttle during the summer. Private vehicles are only allowed from November through February.

Established as a national park in 1919, the park is the fourth most popular park in America. As a result, it can be crowded in the summer. About 70% of the park’s visitors come between May and September. If you must visit during these months, try going on a weekday or early in the day. April and October still have comfortable temperatures with smaller crowds. If you’re going to stay in the park in the summer, you may have to reserve your campground a year in advance.
