When we think of Alaska’s national parks, we think of rugged mountains, glaciers, deep fjords, isolation and amazing wildlife. Glacier Bay National Park checks off all those boxes. The park covers an enormous 3.3 million acres and is a World Heritage Site. You’ll need to catch a plane or boat to Gustavus. The only road is the road from Gustavus to the visitor center. From there, you’ll be on your own getting around the park, or you can take a high-speed catamaran to tour areas of the park.

Established in 1980, the park is teeming with both land and marine animals. The waters are filled with humpback whales, orcas and sea lions. In the park you’ll find brown and black bears, moose, wolverines, mountains lions, bighorn sheep, wolves and coyotes among others. Because of its remoteness and location, you’ll need to visit the park during the summer, although crowding should never be a problem.
