Map

Jagged mountain peaks, steep valleys, glacial basins and a dwindling number of glaciers are pieced together to form Montana’s Glacier National Park. The park sits along the Continental Divide and provides almost limitless opportunities to explore, with over 700 miles of hiking trails. The famous Going-to-the-Sun Road is a marvel of engineering and the only road that crosses the park. When you explore the park you may also see some of the amazing wildlife, including grizzly bears, bighorn sheep, wolves and goats.

Established in 1910, the park is one of the most visited parks in the nation, despite its relative remoteness. Also, because of the limited roads in the park, expect congestion and crowding if you go during the wrong times. Plan to visit just outside of the high season and plan to start your days early. And try to reserve lodging and campgrounds as early as possible, as they’re sure to fill up quickly.
