Exit Glacier is one of the most visited glaciers in the world, thanks in part to its easy accessibility. A part of the Harding Ice Field, it descends about 3,000 feet from the ice field to its end below. From the visitor center, you can take the Ext Glacier View Loop Trail, which is about a mile and is wheelchair accessible. For a closer look, continue another couple of miles on the Glacier Overlook Trail, which will take you right up to the glacier. Along the way, you’ll see signs showing where the glacier was in previous years. It’s a vivid demonstration of the effect that climate change has had on the glacier.

The Harding Ice Field sits above the Exit Glacier. You’ll feel like you’re in the ice age as you look across the vast expanse of ice. The views up here are some of the most magnificent and unique you may ever experience. The trail is strenuous and is a little over 8 miles out and back. There’s also an elevation gain of over 3,600 feet. Be prepared and check trail conditions before attempting it. Kenai Fjords is named for the many fjords that make up the coastline of the park. Long, narrow and deep, the fjords are home to a variety of the park’s wildlife. The best way to see them is on a guided boat tour. On the way you may see whales, sea otters and puffins. You’ll also experience the amazing natural beauty of the area, including glaciers, rock cliffs and alpine forests. The tours leave from Seward and generally last about six hours. If you’re looking for a more rugged adventure, you can also kayak in the fjords. You can do it on your own or get a guided kayak tours as well.
