Top 3 "Must See"

Have limited time, or just looking for some guidance on the best way to spend your time in the park? Here are our Top 3 “Must See” attraction in the park.

If you’re in shape and in the mood (and the weather cooperates), you can experience the highest peak in the state of Texas. At about 8,751 feet of elevation, the peak will give you unrivaled views of the area and landscape. Expect about a 3,000 elevation gain on the 8.4 mile roundtrip trail. You can start it at the Pine Springs Trailhead. Don’t underestimate how strenuous it may be and be sure you bring plenty of water. Most people take at least six hours to complete the trail.  Also be wary of storms and high wind.

If you’re looking for a hike that’s less strenuous and shorter, but also beautiful, you can catch the Devil’s Hall Trail. You’ll start at the Pine Springs Trailhead, just like the Guadalupe Peak Trail. There’s little elevation gain on this 4.2 loop trail. It will take a few hours, but the trail is more suitable for those with children or those who aren’t doing the Guadalupe Peak Trail.

The Frijole Ranch Museum gives you an insight into the lives of some of the Native Americans and early ranchers who called this area home. The ranch is well-maintained and may or may not be open depending on the time of year and staffing availability. You can also find many moderate trails in the area to enhance your visit and help you appreciate the landscape these early settlers dealt with.
