Top 3 "Must See"

Have limited time, or just looking for some guidance on the best way to spend your time in the park? Here are our Top 3 “Must See” attraction in the park.

Boca Chita Key is the most visited island in the park. You can take a ferry out to the island where you’ll find the 65-foot lighthouse that will give you a panoramic view of the park and downtown Miami. The lighthouse, built in the 1930s, is ornamental, but still provides a great backdrop and will give you a chance to get pictures of the park’s iconic landmark. There are no amenities on the park, but you can camp overnight there for $25. Make sure to bring all of your provisions as there is no electricity or water available.

The clear, turquoise waters in Biscayne National Park are ideal for underwater discovery and snorkeling. Here you’ll find shipwrecks, abundant marine life (including dolphins, sea turtles or rays) and tropical habitats. Most of the shipwrecks are over one hundred years old, and you can get maps at the visitor center for more information. Many of the tours will teach you as well about the parks ecosystems and you’ll discover some of the amazing coral reefs. Visit our TOURS page for more information.

Some of the largest concentrations of mangrove forests are located within the park. They provide a sheltered habitat for much of the park’s wildlife, including birds, manatees and other marine life. Kayaking into the forests is the best way to experience the rich biodiversity up-close. The Biscayne National Park Institute provides tours of both the Seagrass Meadows and Jones Lagoon. Visit our TOURS page for more information.
